What is 99PetShops?
If you’re anything like me, chances are you’ll spend many an hour trawling through the internet to find the best deals out there, and this goes for pet products too.
In the same way as Compare the Market does for insurance, 99PetShops does the heavy lifting for you by finding and comparing the best products from over 60 online pet shops. We spoke to founder Edward Chan, who created the site for like-minded pet owners, to find out more.
What is 99PetShops?
To simplify your research, 99PetShops gathers thousands of pet products from over 60 online pet shops. Some of which are well-known pet stores such as Petbarn, My Pet Warehouse, PETstock, Pet Circle to name a few. This allows you to quickly find the lowest price pet product in a few clicks instead of scanning through a multitude of online pet shops. Prices and availability are updated daily as well as new online pet stores.
What inspired you to start 99PetShops?
Originally built in 2014, it was intended for personal use, until we decided to make it available to friends and family, and then to the public later on.
I was born in Hong Kong. Migrated to Australia in 1996 and been living in Melbourne ever since. I studied Software Engineering in RMIT. I have always loved programming and building applications. It brings me joy and a feeling of achievement when creating something people find useful, something that people love and ask for more features. I hope 99PetShops will be one of the creations people will find helpful when searching for the lowest price pet supplies.
Do you have any pets?
Yes, I have Rambo. He is a Pug x Jack Russell (aka Jug). I have had him since he was 8 weeks old, and he will soon turn 13 on 28/12. Rambo is my first pet dog, apart from the great joy dogs bring to me, he has also taught me lessons in life, such as compassion and equality. About 5-6 years ago I started to go on a vegetarian diet because of him.
Have you travelled with Rambo?
Many years ago I used to have to travel to Sydney for work. And sometimes I would drive from Melbourne to Sydney so I can take Rambo with me. One time we stayed in Sydney for 5 weeks at a pet-friendly hotel call Hotel Altamont in Darlinghurst (I believe they have been closed since 2015). Rambo escaped multiple times when the cleaner was doing room service. Luckily he was found and picked up by local rangers.
