When Cats And Coffee Meet: 3 Cat Cafés in Sydney

Last verified: 19 Oct 2025, Australia/Sydney

Cafés and cats are the purrfect combination. Whether you want to sip a cup of coffee while petting a fluffy cat or simply enjoy the cozy atmosphere, these places have become a global trend – bringing warmth, coffee, and that touch of magic only a furry friend can bring.

According to the BBC, cat cafés began in Taiwan in 1998. The very first one, called Cat Flower Garden, started with street cats. After becoming popular among tourists, the idea quickly spread, and in 2004, Japan opened its own version in Osaka.

In Australia, the first one was opened in Melbourne in 2014, and since then, cat cafés have spread across the country.

From sleepy cats to cheeky kittens and matcha lattes to yummy lunches, here are 3 recommendations for cat cafés in Sydney.

PawHaus – Enfield

Located in Enfield, PawHaus is a dream spot for pet lovers! From offering delicious coffee and food to treats for your furry friend, you will find the coziest atmosphere surrounded by happy pets and smiling faces. PawHaus also features a fantastic DIY dog wash starting at just $20, along with a charming little shop filled with pet accessories and collars. As an off-leash establishment, you can bring your furry friend to play and socialize while you relax with a cup of tea. The best part? You can book time in the cat room and cuddle with the most adorable rescue cats – all of them available for adoption. Even better, they have the funniest names for the kittens, like “Café Manager”, “First Aid Kit” and “Rice”. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, making your experience even more enjoyable.

Pokemeow – Rosebery

Located in the charming area of Rosebery, Pokemeow is a cozy little spot for cat lovers. 15 fluffy cats call this place home, each with their own personality and ready to charm every visitor.

The café features a cute and unique decoration and a variety of lunch options. We asked Felicity, who works at Pokemeow, how long they have been open, and she said for 5 years, though they had closed for a while during Covid.

If you want more than just enjoying a delicious lunch and observing the cats though the window, they offer a playground session where you can spend 1 hour with the cats for $20.

Yumiao – Waterloo

Based in Waterloo, Yumiao Cat Café is not just a cozy spot for a cat lover – it’s a whole experience.

The café is full of fun and unique touches. You can grab cute products like tote bags featuring the resident cats, hair clips, and other cat-themed goodies. One of the funniest things is the “Wall of Shame” and “Popularity Ranking “, where visitors vote for their favorite cats using coins. We asked a staff member, and they said people bring coins from all over the world!

Yumiao also has cats available for adoption, you can check all the info on their website and even meet them in person.

There are different session options to spend time with the cats, all of which include a free drink. Beyond that, they organize seminars, webinars, and even sound baths, creating a zen and relaxing experience for visitors.

The cats themselves have so much charm, and you can even feed them while enjoying the cozy vibes,

Yumiao Cat Café is a must-visit spot in Sydney!
