Los Angeles: A Pet-Friendly City

Los Angeles: A pet-friendly city

If you’re in Los Angeles for even a short period of time, you’ll find it hard to not to notice how many dogs are hanging out with their owners in hotels, sitting on laps at breakfast or even waiting in the airport lounge. Compared to Australian cities, where the sight is uncommon, American dogs seem to be everywhere.

According to Rubi, a receptionist at The Kinney, a hotel in LA, the hotel cannot force people with service dogs to hand over paperwork to prove their animal companion is there to “perform tasks for a person with a disability,” so it seems our four-legged American cousins are welcome inside hotels and airports mainly due to a loophole in the law.

LAX Airport

While I was waiting for a delayed flight to Fort Lauderdale from Los Angeles, I was happy to see the airport had a pet area with an open space for dogs to walk and toilet. In addition, no one seemed to mind the lady with a fluffy white cutie on her lap as she waited to board her flight. I love the service dog jackets and wonder if they make them for felines…
