Emerald Creek Falls

Finding a great walk where your beloved dog can join you isn’t always easy but fortunately, Emerald Creek Falls located just over 70 km from Cairns, is dog friendly provided they are leashed.

You can enjoy multiple natural swimming holes that you can explore with your dog but the rocks can be slippery when wet so take care when climbing.

Rules are different for State Forests and National Parks, and because it is in a State Forest, not a National Park, there are less stringent rules on bringing dogs to Emerald Creek Falls.

Emerald Creek Falls has a dog-friendly walking track and waterfall but bring your own doggie poo bags.

Read on to plan your next adventure with your doggo by your side.

Accommodation

If you don’t live in the area, there are some options to stay nearby with a pet. Unfortunately, pets aren’t allowed to camp at  Emerald Creek Falls, which means staying either somewhere in the Tablelands or Cairns.

Those looking for an outback wilderness adventure near Cairns, can stay at Granite Gorge Nature Park. Located 12 kilometres from Mareeba, it features huge granite boulders, a creek for swimming and canoeing, plus a whole host of interesting wildlife.

Pets are allowed in the campsite (on a leash), however, they are not permitted in the gorge itself. Bush camping is available at the park’s powered and unpowered sites, with tents, caravans, camper trailers, RVs, and motorhomes all welcome. It’s important to remember when staying in such close proximity to wildlife that both cats and dogs are kept under control.

In Kuranda, there’s The Billabong Kuranda, which is a multifunctional property, pets are welcome at the RV Park and campground.

Alternatively, if you prefer to stay in Cairns itself, then the BIG4 Ingenia Holidays Cairns Coconut located on the south side of Cairns is nestled amidst spacious, tropical gardens where guests will find a range of amenities. This campground is particularly great for those travelling with dogs because it boasts its own agility park.
