If you an outdoorsy type then you will agree that camping with your dog is a great experience. You and your best mate have heaps of space to roam and explore. There are numerous places to stay with your dog in Queensland. Here is a list from Cooktown to the southeast of Brisbane. Cooktown Orchid Travellers Park
Located in the centre of Cooktown, this park welcomes pets, but at the discretion of the caretakers. Please keep leashed and under control at all times. Owners are expected to clean up after their pets.

Newell Beach Caravan Park & Holiday Units
A very pet-friendly park, located 1 hour north of Cairns and 15 minutes away from Port Douglas. The units are quite protected and many people use the covered area as an extended living area when staying – it is preferred that larger pets stay here. Please bring a litter tray for cats. The park offers 30 shaded powered sites, salt-water swimming pool, communal BBQ area with TV, free book exchange and a modern amenities block with laundry.

Mossman Leisure Park

Discovery Holiday Parks – Lake Tinaroo
Located opposite Lake Tinaroo, this holiday park allows well-behaved animals by prior arrangement to stay either on camping sites or sleep on the cabin’s verandah – conditions apply. Fishery Falls Holiday Park
Located on the Bruce Highway, 37 kilometres south of Cairns, this park has award-winning gardens, and is surrounded by luscious green mountains. Virgin Rock Rest Area
So-called because the Rock once looked like the Virgin Mary cradling the baby Jesus. The rest area is about 2 km north of Springsure or about 64 km south of Emerald. Facilities include male and female amenities, a BBQ hotplate, covered picnic table and rubbish bins. Pets welcome.

Fisherman’s Beach Holiday Park
Set in a great location, this park provides a relaxed, family-friendly environment. Dogs allowed in campsites only during low season – call to book as there are only limited sites are available. A short 30 min drive from Rockhampton and a 10-minute drive from Yeppoon.

Located on the Bruce Highway, about 22 kilometres outside Rockhampton, this park has a large aviary and cat-friendly cabins. Convenient for an overnight stay for those travelling with pets.

Darlington Park Camping Area
This popular shady campsite welcomes dogs and is located 95KM south of Brisbane. It can get busy so it is best to book ahead during peak time. There is a kiosk, children’s playground and flushing toilets. Follow the signposted access on Kerry Road, 25 km south of Beaudesert. Bookings are recommended for peak periods.

Carmila Beach Rest Area
This free (and popular) beachside camping area allows dogs, though they should be kept on a leash. There are toilets with disabled access and BBQ area, but no showers. Be sure to bring your own drinking water.

Red Rock Campground
Dogs are welcome at Red Rock Campground in the Byfield State Forest and must be kept on a lead at all times. Access to the campsite is via a gravel track off Byfield Road junction, north- east of Rockhampton. Facilities include picnic tables, wood BBQs, toilets and water. Red Rock can also be reached in caravans and campervans.

Workmans Beach Camping
For access to this dog-friendly camping area which is suitable for tents and small vans, follow signs from Springs Road. Facilities include disabled composting toilets, cold water shower, BBQs, picnic tables and drinking water. Please keep dogs on a lead. Fees are collected by the ranger twice a day.

Mt Larcom Tourist Park
This is family-run park has well-maintained cabins, clean amenities, and a friendly atmosphere. There is a large unfenced pet exercise area and some of the cabins are pet-friendly – book ahead. Wongi Camping Area
Dogs are welcome to the camping area in Wongi State Forest, but must be kept on a leash at all times. Permits are required and can be bought online or at Hervey Bay Visitor Information Centre (a small fee applies). Campers will enjoy swimming in the waterholes. Kilkivan Bush Camping
Set in the foothills of the Oakview State Forest, visitors will find themselves surrounded by nature. You can choose to go real bush camping, stay in your caravan or motorhome, or stay in the site’s huts if you want a real bed for the evening. Flinders Beach Campground
If you love camping on the beach with your dog, it doesn’t get much better than Flinders Beach. There are twelve beachfront camping areas along the beachfront accessible only by 4WD from the beach, or by bush tracks. For a ‘back to basics’ camping experience, Main Beach stretches for 32kms along the eastern side of the island. There are fifteen designated camping areas at the southern end of Main Beach, which offers great surfing and excellent beach fishing. This is a prime location for more experienced campers and 4WDrivers, and campsites are only accessible by 4WD. There are no amenities or drinking water at Main Beach. Dogs are welcome but must be on a lead and under control at all times. 2 dogs maximum per campsite applies.

This small park has accommodation to suit all budgets with clean and well-maintained facilities to ensure you have the perfect overnight stay. There are fully self-contained, air-conditioned cabins, which sleep up to six or choose to stay in one of the comfortable budget priced overnight caravans. The park welcomes all pets, including cats, birds, reptiles and rodents. As long as they are contained when not inside the pet-friendly cabins or in the traveller’s van, motorhome.
