Dog Friendly: Balmoral & Clontarf Beach
Heading along Military Road you can’t help but notice an army of cute pets trotting beside their owners, which makes me think the rules for dogs on Balmoral Beach might be more relaxed than they are elsewhere in Sydney.
Sadly the thought doesn’t last long, Balmoral is another beach where dogs are not allowed, yet this doesn’t seem to stop an abundance of them enjoying walks with their owner on The Esplanade.
As soon as you arrive you are struck by the natural beauty of Balmoral Beach with its luxurious houses and scenic views.
Although dogs aren’t allowed on the beach at Balmoral, it is a great place for a stroll allow the Esplanade. Many families like to picnic along the side of the beach where many pets have been known to join them.

Statue of Billy the Dog
One dog that is a permanent fixture at Balmoral is the statue of Billy. For 17 years Billy was a familiar figure in Mosman as he went on the daily rounds beside his master (a street sweeper with Mosman Council). When he died dog lovers decided to make his memory last forever with this statue.
This statue is a gift to the people of Mosman as a reminder of the reliance of animals on man and the debt mankind owes to animals.
Clontarf Reserve
Clontarf Reserve is an on-leash area and dogs are allowed between the hours of 10 am and 6 pm (eastern standard time) and 10 am and 8 pm eastern summer time) on weekends, school holidays and public holidays.
The signage at Clontarf states that dogs are allowed off-leash if:
1. The dog is under effective control
2. There is no conflict or interference with an event
3. Dog poo is immediately removed
