Dog Adventures Review: Pet-Friendly Guidebook

If you are anything like me, I hate the idea of going on holiday and leaving Kate behind. Kate is part of our family and as such, we try and plan as many of our trips to be as dog friendly as possible. As a result, before we go away anywhere, a fair chunk of my time is dedicated to searching the internet for dog-friendly accommodation options. So when author Carla Francis contacted me asking if I would be interested in reading and reviewing her Pet-Friendly Accommodation on Australia’s East Coast guide, she received a resounding yes from me!

The Guide

Pet-Friendly Accommodation covers just that – the entire East Coast of Australia. (Sorry Central and West Australians!) The book is divided into four sections covering Queensland, New South Wales, ACT and Snowy Mountains and Victoria.

Each of these sections are then divided into regions and listings are categorised alphabetically within them. Each region includes a detailed map marking out the pet-friendly listings by number, which correspond to the town the accommodation can be found further in the section.

The guide has been independently researched and collated by the author Carla Francis, and lists a multitude of pet friendly accommodation options. These range from self-catering cottages, beach houses, hotels, B&Bs, holiday parks to camp sites.

The book covers all pets – not just dogs – with listings that can take cats, birds, horses and even rabbits. The introduction to the book also includes tips for travelling with your pets such as how to plan your trip adequately, how to air travel with your pets, and dangers to watch out for on your adventures.

The Listings

Each accommodation listing includes:

  • Legend indicating what types of pets are allowed, price range, if there is a beach nearby or if there is camping available.
  • Brief description of the accommodation.
  • Address, contact number, email and website if available.
  • Some listings include a colour photo.

What we liked Independently researched – only the author’s recommendations make it into the book free from advertising. Detailed maps at the start of each section showing a snapshot of the accommodation locations. Colour coded to make it easier to find your place in the book. Easy to read legend for a quick reference of each property. Variety of listings which meant we could find accommodation that would suit any type of travel from luxury to camping. Caters for all type of animals and all sizes – not just small dogs and cats!

I’ve found the Pet-Friendly Accommodation on Australia’s East Coast is a great addition to our trip planning. The unbiased descriptions of the accommodation options provide a great starting point in our adventure planning. The book covers the coast to as far inland as Wee Jasper NSW, but as the title suggests the listings are restricted to mostly the coast. The bonus section of Dog-Friendly Beaches and Parks at the back of the guide is also great for those road trip breaks you may need along the way. This book would be great for anyone planning a getaway along the coast and looking for a comprehensive accommodation guide to the east coast of Australia.
