Boomi Co-Op & Caravan Park

Located on the border of New South Wales and Queensland, north of Moree, Boomi Co-Op & Caravan Park is not only pet-friendly, but it’s also home to Boomi Artesian Baths, which are said to have healing and restorative powers. Many patrons visit the Artesian baths to relieve aches and pains.

We spoke to Georgia Brown, Treasurer of the Boomi Community Co-operative Ltd to find out more.

  1. How/when did the Boomi co-op start?

The Boomi Co-op was opened in 2007 by Boomi Community Co-operative Ltd, which was formed by a group of local community members. Boomi Community Co-operative is a not for profit co-operative and established the Boomi Co-op to provide the Boomi area with a general store and takeaway shop. The general store, takeaway and caravan park are operated by local volunteers and locally employed staff.

  1. What was the caravan park before you took over?

The caravan park was established by the Boomi Co-op, a couple of years after the general store was opened. The land was acquired by the Boomi Co-op, and a amenities block was purpose built when the caravan park was opened.

  1. Has the park always been pet-friendly?

The Boomi Co-op has always welcomed visitors travelling with pets.

  1. Where can people stay with pets? Campsite? Cabins etc?

The caravan park has caravan and campsites, and guests are able to stay in any site with pets.

  1. Do you allow all types of pets or only dogs? Birds, cats etc?

The Boomi Co-op allows all types of pets to stay in the caravan and campsites.

  1. Why should people stay at your park? What facilities are there?

The Boomi Co-op Caravan Park is well loved by visitors and many return annually. The greatest thing our park has to offer is visiting the unique and welcoming Boomi community. Although small, the community of Boomi is very friendly and inclusive.

The park offers powered and watered sites, non-powered sites, a clean and well-maintained amenities building with toilets, showers and washing machine. The Boomi Co-op has a general store and takeaway which is open 7 days per week offering; hot meals, tea, coffee, cold drinks, ice creams, essential grocery items and service with a smile.

The park adjoins the Boomi Artesian Baths complex which has a 25m main pool to swim some laps or cool off, a children’s wading pool and the well renowned hot Artesian pool/spa.

  1. Why should they visit the Boomi Artesian pool? What are the health benefits?

The Boomi Artesian Baths complex is an enjoyable and well-maintained facility which is a credit to our hardworking community. The pools create a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere for visitors to enjoy the Artesian water which comes from deep underground. The water is rich in minerals, and it has long been known in many cultures that the water has healing and restorative powers. Many patrons visit the Artesian baths to relieve aches and pains.

  1. How close to the pools is the caravan park? Where can pets stay whilst their people are relaxing in the pool?

The Boomi Co-op building adjoins the Baths complex and the caravan park is a very short walk (50m) through the tennis courts to the pools. Pets aren’t allowing in the baths complex, however, they can be tied up and wait for their owners on the fence between the Co-op and the pool, with a full view of their owners relaxing in the pools.
